Coffee

The process of preparing espresso involves forcing water, under pressure, through finely ground coffee to produce a small cup of concentrated coffee topped with a crema (or foam). The taste will vary greatly depending on the choice of ground coffee and the process of preparation but, when done correctly using your preferred method, the end result is most satisfying.

Espresso is either served in small volumes (usually 30ml) or used as the base ingredient of other coffee drinks such as macchiato, latte, cappuccino, mocha or americano.

Traditionally espresso has been associated with European bars and cafés. More recently, as coffee shop chains have increased in number, espresso, or espresso-based drinks have become very popular. This popularity has led to an increasing interest in the preparation of coffee at home, enhanced by the wide choice and availability of specialized equipment and coffee bean or ground coffee.
